About the Site
Unofficial Mills originally launched in June 2004 as a small project after getting the chance to go on-air after calling the show.
Whilst there were many fan sites available for Chris Moyles, he felt there wasn't enough information online about Scott's show. He was just a huge fan that wanted to promote the show. He updates the website at all times of day throughout the week. Originally a high school student, he's now a sixth form student and just as devoted to the website as he was when it began!
The work on Unofficial Mills began in a school holiday in late 2004. At the beginning of 2005 the interest in Unofficial Mills grew, and thanks to many donations of web space, the website was able to offer some MP3 downloads.
In June 2005, Unofficial Mills was given more free webspace to work with, and a message board was set up. At this time the site was getting interest from Radio 1 and the Scott Mills show. In a bid for a mention on Radio 1, message board users begun texting in to the station during Your Call. Scott branded it "quite scary, but at the same time quite cool". Even DJ Spoony gave it a plug.
The amount of message board users increased, and the website became even more popular. The website begun to offer daily show clips, and daily show reviews, and regular forum members begun to help the website out.
In September 2005, Unofficial Mills brought new forum software, and 'Your Views' begun - a forum topic where message board users got the chance to talk about the show as it was happening. The website became listed on Scott's official pages, and Scott and Laura registered on the message board. Notably Chappers didn't register, nor has he yet! The website also begun offering tour dates for Chappers and Dave.
Success continued in 2006, with a thousand forum members having registered. The website was relaunched with a new look and Jono was given the chance to represent the website as events including Radio 1's Chart Show Live and Celebrity Scissorhands - where Scott cut Jono's hair! In the year 2006 alone, Unofficial Mills racked up over 400,000 visits from global listeners. It got mentions from JK and Joel, Vernon Kay, and even Chris Moyles. The amount of message board users registered was now also well over 3,000 members.
In 2007 our hosting company closed, but we continued to go strong. Through donations we managed to rake together some money, and moved to a new host. The website became more involved with the show and helped supply content to Scott's show, and we continued to get more recognition on-air. See some of our 2007 achievements here.
